2014 Summer League rosters revealed

June 18th, 2014

Expecting the bar to rise another notch was probably unrealistic.

We may have been a little spoiled by level of participation of current University of Hawaii men's basketball players in the College Summer League over the last couple of years.

The numbers are down in the rosters revealed for the 38th running of the league, but among the six 2014-15 UH players slated to participate are all three members of the signing class for the coming college hoops season — Roderick Bobbitt, Isaac Fleming and Sammis Reyes.

The summer league regular season starts up June 28 and runs through Aug. 5 at the Manoa Valley District Park, with the same doubleheader format — 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. — on any game night. The majority of games are on Thursdays and Saturdays but with the occasional Tuesday thrown in. The playoffs are somewhat different — this time featuring a format of three consecutive days of play Aug. 7-9. Those will again be held at Maryknoll's gym.

Ex-'Bow Julian Sensley will be around to defend last year's title with Wealth Strategy Partners, but as of this roster last year's league MVP Aaron Valdes will not be playing.

There's plenty of the regular former Division II and small-college players you come to expect. UH fans might also be excited to see Phil Martin listed among the expected participants. Others, like expected Rainbows walk-ons Tyler Harville and Brocke Stepteau, are not listed right now.

The team names are the same, with the exception of Central Medical Clinic, which became Chosen Few.

Here's the list of active and former UH players by team. Keep in mind rosters have a way of changing on the fly leading up to (and even during) the games. Bolded names are current UH players.

Chosen Few (coached by David Patterson) — Zach Buscher, Bill Amis, Jace Tavita

Clark Hatch Fitness (Tim Thorpe and Al Kam) — Isaac Fleming, Phil Martin

Grantco Pacific (Allan Silva) — Roderick Bobbitt, Geremy Robinson, Christian Standhardinger, Tyler Brown

National Fire Protection Co. (Gilbert Hicks) — Mike Thomas

Solar Universe (Artie Wilson) — Sammis Reyes, Dyrbe Enos, Tim Shepherd

Wealth Strategy Partners (Marco Johnson) — Julian Sensley, Miah Ostrowski

Do you know who is Deante Hearn 6'4" from University of Hawaii playing for National Fire Protection? Wish he were 6'8"... Is he going to walkon with UH MBB team?
    Thanks in advance.

  2. bowsfan:

Will D. one basketball have a summer league too.

  3. Jake:

  4. Rob t:

Where in the world are the rest of the UH men's basketball starters? Fotu, Smith, Jovanovic, Jankovic, Webster-Chan, Nevels, Jawato, etc

Gib said they did so well in school, ahead of track to graduate, no one failing falling behind. So , Fotu, went back to New Zealand will be with National team trying to qualify for World games, try to win a Basketball international title. Nevels, Smith, Jovanovich, went back to Cali for vacation, and they work out, open gym runs at home be back before Aug fall UH session starts. Jankovich and Webster-Chan went back home to Toronto , Canada, same thing open gym, summer ball, and workout, chill. Valdes too, back home in Cali, workout, open gym runs and chill. A reward for doing really well in school. They will be back in August. Jawato still here, going to summer school, he on track to graduate this Spring 2015, which is great! Mike Thomas will be here early July to go to summer school, get ahead of school work, carries really heavy load of classes, very smart guy, and play in summer league. That is where those returnees are, ..Hackman a walkon, transferred to another DII school,.. believe Harper, another preferred walkon, went home for summer to Australia..Don't worry they will be back...Gib only wanted new LOI and preferred and invited walkons, to come into summer session and summer ball, Reyes, Fleming, Bobbitt, preferred freshmen walkons, Tyler Harville and Brock Stepteau. Dyrbe Enos is here, going to summer school, helping with camps along with Jawato, and Dyrbe will play summer league in Manoa.

Also Zach Buscher from Iolani, invited walkon will be in summer school and play in Manoa summer league. Jawato, won't be 100% ready to play this summer, he rehabbing his surgically repaired ankle. He will be healthy and a much needed 3 ball threat for next season's team!

  7. Turfwar:

A lot of those guys have been in Hawaii, away from home, for a long time considering they were here last year for the summer league. It's healthy for them to go back home, be with family and get recharged with their homies.

  8. aaron:

are the complete rosters listed anywhere?

    Brian:

Is it a total of 8 UH MBB athletes on the Manoa College League rosters?
Bobbitt, Fleming, Reyes, Harville, Stepteau, Thomas, Enos, and Buscher=8

And do you still know, or can you find out , I know you are busy with World Cup Soccer, who is:
Do you know who is Deante Hearn 6'4" from University of Hawaii playing for National Fire Protection? Wish he were 6'8"... Is he going to walkon with UH MBB team?
    Thanks in advance.

  12. Brian McInnis:

Hey, sorry I missed your question previously. It will be roughly 8. Reyes is sounding dicey for the second summer session (and summer league), which I will expand on in a new post later tonight.

  13. Brian McInnis:

As for Hearn, I don't know much about him. It's possible he's going out there to prove himself and try to pick up a walk-on slot, like a couple of guys tried to do (unsuccessfully) last summer league.
